Job Description

Job Summary

The Cancer Team at Princess Alexandra Hospital are looking to appoint a Cancer Genomics Lead Nurse on a fixed term contract. This is an exciting opportunity for any nurse who has extensive oncology and genomics experience. The appointed nurse will ensure genomics is embedded into Princess Alexandra Hospital's cancer care provision, bridging the gap between the rapidly advancing genomic landscape and frontline patient care. The role will incorporate the dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research. The nurse will be a highly visible, valuable member of the multidisciplinary team and will run their own nurse-led clinics whilst supporting the oncology CNSs to embed efficient mainstreaming services into tumour site groups.

The post holder will work under the direction of the Macmillan Head of Nursing for Cancer to deliver a supportive genomics nursing service for patients and their families undergoing treatment and investigation for Cancer within the Princess Alexandra Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage and lead the cancer genomics specialist service with responsibility for ensuring high quality, evidenced based, cost-effective care.
  • To educate and develop the CNS workforce to increase genomics knowledge and skills across tumour sites
  • To provide high quality, expert nursing care as an autonomous practitioner with highly specialist advanced skills.
  • To deliver evidence based individualised patient care according to patient’s changing health care needs.
  • To seek collaborative relationships with others across and within professional boundaries.
  • To review and develop services and patient pathways and ensure high levels of patient care, experience and satisfaction.
  • To work with the Multidisciplinary team (MDT) and Cancer Management Team to ensure that genomics is imbedded across tumour sites and the genomics service complies with the national standards for safety and quality.
  • To lead on research and audit within cancer genomics
  • To act as a visible role model, throughout the trust and externally.
