Job overview

We are looking to recruit 5 clinical digital fellows at FY 3 level to develop skill in Digital Health and the Health Information Technology (HIT). This is a post which combines digital transformation, quality improvement in Digital Health, development of technical IT and Clinical Safety skill with clinical work.

Main duties of the job

  • Drive a high level of clinical engagement and adoption from medical staff to our Enterprise wide EHR provided by Oracle Health
  • Drive a high level of clinical engagement and adoption from medical staff with all Health Information technology provided at the trust
  • Drive Digital transformation of clinical pathways supported by the use of the EHR and other relevant digital solutions
  • Ensuring Digital transformation delivers improved clinical outcomes to patients and increases the clinical time to care through efficient and effective digital adoption
  • Support the development of reporting to deliver data driven insights based upon your professional curiosity and interest in digital healthcare
  • Become qualified as a Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) and prepare Clinical Safety reports relevant to clinical expertise
  • Deliver education on Digital Health to Doctors and Medical Students
  • Opportunity for academic publication and presentations concerning digital healthcare and digital transformation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This represents a unique opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in digital healthcare as well as providing valuable experience and continued clinical development in clinical practice. It will be enjoyable, relevant to the future practice of any doctor and will enhance professional and personal development. The role reports directly to the CCIO with whom they will agree their work plan and expected outcomes.


The post is balanced between 50% clinical service commitment and 50% as a key member of the Clinical Digital Team.

The clinical digital component of the post will be supervised by the Chief Clinical Information Officer, working as part of the clinical digital team and alongside the team of Clinical Digital Fellows. The post holder will learn to develop influencing skills and some gain knowledge of the clinical challenges to the adoption of digital solutions

The allocation to clinical speciality is a balance between a speciality of interest to the Clinical Digital Fellow and the needs of the organisation and Digital Health program.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Build a team of Resident doctors working to bring digital transformation to front line clinical staff including use and development of clinical digital systems
  • To attend EHR optimisation events and digital transformation events and become proficient in workflow testing as required.
  • To agree to undertake activities that arise during the optimisation phase of the EHR (Alex Health) (e.g. the collection of material; seeking of clarification from colleagues; making contact with professional bodies), and to feedback the results of these activities as requested.
  • To provide relevant expertise according to their role and care setting.
  • To develop skills in Quality improvement methodology and influencing skills and work with the transformation team to deliver successful change programs associated with Digital Health
  • To participate in end-user testing of new systems.
  • Undertake training and support to be able to work as a floor walker for new program/system implementation.
  • Provide the clinical focus to support resident doctors to become involved in the design and implementation of Healthcare Information Technology
  • Promote the adoption of transformational clinical workflows supported by the use of clinical digital systems ensuring patient safety and quality at all times
  • Support delivery of the trust clinical digital strategy by providing clinical insight in line with your clinical practice
  • Weekly Attendance at Workstream and project meetings as well as Clinical Digital Advisory Board.
